Reusable permanent coffee filters are a smart alternative and improvement to paper filters. You will want to choose the proper model that fits your coffee maker. Permanent, reusable coffee filters are available from different manufacturers and fall into two categories, Gold Tone and Swissgold.
Swissgold coffee filter products are made with 23 karat gold plated materials, while Gold Tone products use a stainless steel filter mesh. The Swissgold products are more expensive, falling into the $20 to $35 range, while the Gold Tone products fall into the more affordable $10 to $16 range.
The Swissgold solid gold plating is chemically neutral which reduces any influence or introduction of "off" taste to the coffee. However, we've found both the Gold Tone and Swissgold permanent coffee filters work well, and get the job done nicely.
